3 Ways To Change Your State – NLP Techniques

States affect our capabilities. There are no unresourceful people, just unresourceful states. How well you perform depends on which state you are in. Whatever task you have to perform, whatever you want as an outcome, ask yourself “what state do I want to be in to make this easy?”

If you do want to change your state, there are many ways to do so. Here are 3 ways to change your state:

Focus

Change the pictures you are making inside you head – not just what you are picturing, but how you are picturing it.

Change the sounds you can hear inside your head (ever noticed what happens if you’re feeling low and you hear your favourite piece of uplifting music?)

Physiology

Change your body radically – MOVE!… anything that pushes different chemicals around your nervous system. Change your posture, facial expression, breathing etc.

Self-Talk

Change your internal dialogue or self-talk – again you can change the content or the language. How about your internal critic speaking to you in the voice of Donald Duck? Or move the location of the voices so it comes from your left big toe! Or change it into a sexy, seductive tonality.

Ask yourself a better quality question, instead of something like ‘why does this keep happening to me?’, ask ‘what can I learn from this situation?’

The ability to change your state and choose how you feel is one of the skills for emotional freedom and a happy life. Emotional freedom does not mean never feeling negative states, but being able to be aware of them and choose your response.

All states are caused by the interaction between your thinking patterns, your physiology and your neurochemicals. Changing any of these can influence your state.

hi,
I very much appreciate all the daily quotes and the information above. When I have completed my current course, I am very keen to enrole on the NLP programme, as I find it a fantastic tool to inspire me to grow in my skills and to encourage my learners to do the same.

Many thanks

Just to support the aspect on physiology, here’s a link to a great talk by Amy Cuddy on TED Talks on the impact this can have – http://bit.ly/QuWw3u
