Are you “R.E.A.D.Y” for 2012?

Are you "R.E.A.D.Y" for 2012?

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year. Here’s to a very successful and prosperous 2012 for us all.

Looking back at 2011 it is easy to assume that given the financial crisis, Coaching as a growth profession might be in a vulnerable position. This really hasn’t been the case from what I have experienced at The Coaching Academy over the past 12 months.

I have continued to be amazed and inspired by the many coaching success stories coming out of The Coaching Academy network, and as an organisation, I am really proud to say that The Coaching Academy has defied the reported doom and gloom business news that has filled the press column inches. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this!

When I first started my Coaching career, my niche was coaching business owners and entrepreneurs, and coaching was a fairly new profession. This has all changed now, coaching business owners is still a very strong niche but increased awareness of the benefits of coaching has in turn raised the demand for qualified business coaches. Even the government are now supporting coaching and mentoring schemes for budding entrepreneurs.

It is of course important to think long term and consider that the future may throw further obstacles at the economy but until then it is very encouraging to hear and experience first hand that coaching continues to go from strength to strength. A recent report by CIPD found that coaching is being used more than ever to improve performance. They found 84% of the organisations they work with are using Coaches more now than they were 2 year ago.

Here’s to many more success stories for 2012!

Are you R.E.A.D.Y to be part of this?

R – Resilience

There is an old saying that, ‘If you keep doing what you have always done, you will keep getting what you have always got.’

Many business owners and organistaions are now finding that their old approaches are not working as effectively as they’d like. You only need to look at the explosion of social media and blogging as a marketing tool becoming more and more popular over methods such as direct mail and cold calling.

Now is the time for coaches to help business owners and individuals realise that change can happen, the way things have always been done isn’t the only path to success and that goals can bet met!  As coaches we are the cavaliers that can help.

We all need to become more creative about how we find and keep our customers. Don’t panic. Don’t be rash. Try something new on a small scale and test and measure it first.

Resilience is being able to adapt and the willingness to evolve in the face of change.

E – Environment

Are your home, work, and social environments supporting you in your plans and vision of success? Or are there habits, people and ways of living that sabotage your dreams and hold you back?

Sometimes we need to ask ourselves what we would be willing to let go of in order to achieve what we want for the future. Most successful coaches know that they need to push and challenge themselves beyond comfortable limits if they are to achieve optimum success and gain the chance of becoming the best they can possibly be.

What are you prepared to do or to change, to get the result you want?

A – Attitude

2012 is the year of the British Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is also the year of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, so we have many things to feel upbeat and spirited about in the months ahead.

It is incredibly uplifting and motivating to see other people do well and realise their dreams. Watching people do well, especially when they have trained hard for their moment of glory, makes us all feel proud and hungry to do better ourselves.

Successful people are upbeat people. It shows in the way they speak and the way they think. When you ask a successful person how they are feeling, they will rarely say ‘fine’ or ‘ok’. They are more likely to reply with ‘Great, fantastic, never better.’

This kind of positive self-talk has a positive impact on the brain and lifts the spirits of those around you too. In 2012 everyone needs to have an Olympic mind-set.

Are you feeling positive about the year ahead or do you need to adjust your self-talk for greater success?

D – Discipline

When the alarm goes off each morning, do you press the snooze button and start the day with a delay or do you leap out of bed with a plan in mind, ready to tackle the day?

Those who reach the top in their profession have two things in common: they value their time and they are self-disciplined in how they use it.

Those who want to be R.E.A.D.Y to succeed in 2012 will do more of the things that will take them closer to their goals, and less of the things that take them further away from them. Discipline is the cornerstone of all other success traits.

Y – You

What are your resolutions for the year ahead? What are you planning to DO! to drive your coaching business forward? What skills do you need to improve to be able to succeed in 2012? Does anyone on your team need further guidance or training? What outmoded practices are you going to DITCH to enable you to be a more profitable, more efficient coach?

If you expect the worst, you are probably going to get it. If you plan for the best you are more likely to achieve that too. You are the driver of your own destiny and your success.

If you were to step forward now, to the 31 December 2012, what will you be saying when you look back on the year just passed? Will you be saying to yourself, “Where did that time go? Doesn’t time fly? Another year gone.”

Or, will you be celebrating your own success stories, and those of your clients – punching the air with a feeling of euphoria and saying, “Wow that was a good year!”

It’s so important to take stock every now and again and to check that the path is still the correct one while celebrating the journey so far.
The New Year is a great time to do this. Thanks for the heads up Bev!
