Coach In The Spotlight - Dionne Lewis-Reid

Dionne Lewis-Reid is a qualified Coaching Academy Personal Performance Coach. Dionne has been on an interesting journey and developed a fascinating niche. We’ve put Dionne into the coaching hot seat to find out more.

Dionne had been aware of coaching for several years but decided it could be a career for her after she was made redundant from her job and was looking for a profession which meant she could work in an area that she felt a strong passion for. Here is her story.

I decided to enrol onto the 2 day free event to see what all the fuss was about. I had several friends that were life coaches and one of them informed me about the 2 day event. I had been made redundant from my job as an Equality and Diversity Officer in a Public Sector organisation and decided I needed a change. I wanted to discover my passion and bring it into my day to day life.

After attending the 2 days, I came out feeling that this was something I wanted to do, but the challenge was to figure out how am I going to fund this Diploma? Over the two days I had connected with some great people  who reminded me  that I shouldn’t limit myself – that anything is possible! So after talking with my amazing husband-to-be (at the time) he agreed I could use the money we had saved towards our wedding and he would support my decision, so I booked!

My box of goodies arrived and I have to admit, I put it to one side for a couple of days whilst I prepared to discover what was inside. Once opened I became really focused and wanted to get myself on the next available accelerator day.

I realised that to get this qualification achieved I would need to make some adjustments in other areas of my life. I knew there was going to be a challenge in fitting in my studying, becoming self-employed, building my business all whilst planning a wedding!

Which part of the journey did I enjoy the most?

I really enjoyed the accelerator days. I met some great people along the way and would leave sessions on a high. Those days allowed me to stay focused and stay on track, even on the days when it all seemed like so much hard work and I was struggling with the motivation to keep everything going, the Accelerator days reminded me why I was doing this and how right this all felt for me.

All the hard work has paid off as by far the most rewarding part of my journey was qualifying. I am self employed and run my own Coaching & Development company which I love, and building on my client base. I have secured contracts with Local Authorities as well as attracting personal coaching clients. Not forgetting I am now a happily married lady!

Discovering my niche.

I had lots of challenges that came up on the run up to my wedding and holding conversations with other married people and soon to be brides and grooms I discovered some common issues and I decided that I could use my coaching skills to support brides and grooms to be – my niche was born!

This is about maintaining a life balance and coaching people to enjoy the planning process with their husband/wife to be and not let the other tensions interfere with and affect their relationship.

Where do I see my coaching business heading?

My aspiration is to become a Global brand. I would like to expand my business abroad and I’m working on laying the foundations for this.

When asked what is it I most enjoy about being a coach, I have to say I love making a difference in people’s lives, seeing my clients make positive changes that have a massive impact on their lives. Priceless!! I also love working for myself, knowing I’m responsible for my future and no one else!

My favourite coaching question is – “What is missing for you in this situation?

I love this question as it really opens doors for people. We don’t often think to ourselves what is missing and clients always come up with interesting answers.

My top tip for someone on their coaching journey is to get your first practical assessment complete as soon as possible. It will give you a massive amount of positive feedback and increase your confidence that you are on the right track.

For those of you who have already qualified, enjoy building your business – maybe we should hook up and collaborate – call me!

What a Fab niche! It would seem weddings can take some serious planning so who better than a great coach to help break it down into manageable bite sized chunks ;-)
Great reading your story, thank you for sharing and huge congratulations to you. I wish you very well in taking your business abroad – Warm wishes, Lisa

I can honestly say that being coached by Dionne has finally helped me focus on what i want from life. I can actually visualise the things i want and know that they are possible. She is my fairy god mother and when I’m feeling low she is always there to remind me of who i am and lift my spirits. Everyone needs a Dionne in their life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am looking forward now and not back and i know that great things are about to happen.
