The sun is shining and Spring is the time of year when thoughts of having a good spring clean, tidy up the garden and a de-clutter is in order.
How many of you have thought about a spring clean of the mind?
Just like your house, our minds get cluttered with old ideas, old attitudes, old conversations and old unhelpful thought patterns.
We collect and hold onto things and thoughts without always knowing why. Now is a great time to have a mental spring clean. Present yourself with the permission to make a conscious decision as to what you want to hold onto and what is unhelpful that you want to ditch.
Having a mental spring clean takes dedicated effort a conscious choice and a want to make some changes. Very much like having a good old sort out in the garage, you make a choice and you set about your task.
So consider these tips to help you along your journey:
Lighten the load. Manageable steps is the coaching way! Write down what is bothering you, the unhelpful thoughts, the little niggles that are all too consuming at times. Those of you who love lists, will love putting action into place and crossing them off one by one.
Scrub up on your attitude. We all have negative thoughts, don’t allow them to dominate. When you next hear your gremlin starting to chat away, bring this to a conscious thought and ask yourself what could you say instead? What is your positive mantra?
Wash away procrastination. Procrastination leads to stress. What is it that you know you are holding back on? How can you make sure you effectively plan ahead and not leave everything to the last minute? How will you reward yourself once you have this task concluded?
Sweep out old habits that are not serving you well. Reflect and identify what these habits are, allowing you to decide where you want to sweep them.
What would you like instead of these old and unhelpful habits? Use your support networks to help you with some of those tough to reach cobwebs, be determined.
Open the window to your mind, let the freshness in. Your mind is like a parachute, once open it’s free to explore new and exciting ideas. It can literally take you anywhere – dare to dream.
