Success Story: Coaching Academy graduate publishes her first Book

Posted by: The Coaching Academy In: Success Stories

Coaching Academy Graduate, Karen Williams has recently written her first book, which is due to be published later this year.

After a successful career in HR and training, Karen first discovered coaching when she realised that she was stuck in a career rut in January 2006.  To help her to find her ideal job, Karen took on the services of a life coach.  Like many people, she realised that she had found something that she would love to do and decided to train as a coach herself.

Karen initially attended The Coaching Academy’s free 2 day coaching certificate and quickly signed up to do the Advanced Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching.  She started the qualification in April 2006 and qualified in the November.  She then set up her business, Self Discovery Coaching.

Karen quickly discovered that although she was a great coach, she needed the business skills to be successful in running her business.  This led to a curiosity to want to find out why some coaches were more successful than others.  When she studied for a NLP Master Practitioner qualification last year, she had to undertake a modelling project.  So she decided to model the mindset behind a successful business, and this was the inspiration for her book.

During the last year she has taken the opportunity to model 11 successful coaches, she has discovered their secrets, which she shares in her book, The Secrets of Successful Coaches, out later this year.

Here are some of her top tips to run a successful coaching business:

  • Make sure you know your values and that these are reflected in your coaching business and the service you offer to clients.
  • If you don’t have the knowledge of how to run a business, be prepared to learn quickly.
  • Create a clear vision of your ideal business and take steps every day to make it a reality.
  • Develop a focused niche as this makes it easier to market your business.
  • Have a clear understanding of your ideal client and how you can help them.
  • Be prepared to get out and network to develop relationships with potential clients and valuable contacts.
  • Be an amazing coach as this will impact on the service you provide and your reputation in the industry.
  • Develop a winning mindset as you will confidently believe in yourself and your abilities.
  • Live an inspired life.
  • Get yourself a coach or mentor to help you to create your ideal successful business.
